Living Forms: Nature, Desire & Transformation: Šimon Szabo & Tereza Tomanová’s

At Andaz Prague, contemporary art becomes part of the guest experience — opening a dialogue between space, emotion, and imagination. This season, we are pleased to present works by Czech artists Šimon Szabo and Tereza Tomanová, whose practices explore transformation, organic systems, and the relationship between humanity and nature.

Šimon Szabo (1988)

Šimon Szabo challenges the integrity of closed systems through sculpture, installation, and interventions in public space. Using the principle of “visual homonyms,” he combines forms that appear related while carrying entirely different meanings or functions. His work continuously explores hybridization — blending organic structures with artificially created forms — while touching on themes of sexuality, love, ecology, and contemporary existence. Unbound by fixed rules, Szabo’s artistic language is driven by spontaneous interaction and unexpected encounters. He graduated from the Sculpture Studio at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava under sculptor Jaroslav Koléšek and further developed his practice during an internship with renowned sculptor Vladimír Škoda in Paris.

Tereza Tomanová’s

Tereza Tomanová’s artistic practice originates from the concept of the garden — first through personal mythology and later as a broader reflection on human existence and nature. Her work is characterized by the conscious use of diverse materials, often incorporating fruits and vegetables into unexpected contexts. In her diploma project, she explored the evolving relationship between humans and gardens, asking what a garden can represent emotionally, symbolically, and spiritually. Her series of paintings, created using red cabbage pigments and inorganic substances, reflects processes of suppression, expansion, and transformation found in natural ecosystems. Inspired by the enclosed medieval courtyard, her installations evoke mystery, symbolism, and the cyclical nature of life. Through both visual and performative elements, Tomanová invites viewers to reconsider the role of humanity — not only as creators, but also as caretakers within an ever-changing natural world.
